Lens tinting in your own workshop
With a lens colouring machine you tint organic (plastic) lenses yourself instead of ordering them tinted: sun tints, fashion colours, a tint matched to a frame. The electric plates heat the dye baths in the steel pots, a timer with alarm signals the end of the pre-heating phase, and an energy regulator for each pair of plates keeps the set temperature while the lenses are in the dye.
What to look for
- Number of pots: four (Tinta) or two (Tinta 2), steel with lid, 1 litre each
- Timer with alarm for the pre-heating phase
- An energy regulator per pair of plates for a steady temperature
- Lens holders for the lenses (metal or plastic, sold separately); a grading machine (Ala) for gradient tints
Frequently asked questions
Tinta or Tinta 2?
The Tinta has four plates and four pots, so you can run several colours at once. The Tinta 2 has two plates and two pots and takes less room. Both are supplied with steel pots with lids.
Can I tint any lens?
GFC’s colouring machines are made for organic lenses. Whether a particular lens and coating can be tinted depends on the lens, so ask the lens supplier.
How do I make a gradient tint?
A colouring machine gives a solid tint. For a gradient, from dark to clear, use the Ala lens grading machine.
