Lensmeter (External Reading) TW-1004: A lensmeter (focimeter) for verifying the power, axis and prism of spectacle and contact lenses, in manual or automatic form.
What a lensmeter does in your practice
A lensmeter (focimeter) reads the power of spectacle lenses: every optician needs one to check new glasses before handover and to read a patient’s current glasses. Manual lensmeters are durable and simple; automatic ones measure progressive lenses, UV transmission and PD in seconds.
What to look for
- Manual for price and durability, automatic for speed and progressive lenses
- Prism, cylinder and axis read-out, and marking of the optical centre
- PD and UV measurement on automatic models
- Printer and data output

Frequently asked questions
Manual or automatic lensmeter?
A manual lensmeter is durable and simple for single-vision lenses. An automatic lensmeter reads progressive lenses, measures prism, PD and UV transmission, and prints results, which saves time when checking every new pair of glasses.
Can a lensmeter check progressive lenses?
Automatic lensmeters have a progressive-lens mode that finds the distance and near zones for you. With a manual lensmeter it is possible but slower and needs more experience.
