Specifications

The Maga S frame heater is GFC’s most powerful: 1500 W, an electronic heat regulator and cold air. It softens acetate and other plastic frames for fitting and adjusting, with two temperature levels and up to about 180 °C at the hot air concentrator.

  • Two temperature levels (about 70–90 °C and 130–170 °C); up to about 180 °C with the hot air concentrator
  • Cold air
  • Dual air flow that surrounds the part of the frame to soften, without moving the frame
  • Electronic heat regulator; thermal cut-out switch against overheating
  • 1500 W

What a frame heater does in an optical workshop

A frame heater softens acetate and other plastic frames so that you can fit and adjust them to the wearer: bending the temples, correcting the bridge, setting the angle of the lenses. Controlled, even heat keeps the shape and the finish of the frame, which is hard to get from a hairdryer. GFC builds the heating elements of its frame heaters itself.

What to look for

  • Temperature: Vispa about 70 and 130 °C, Zita up to about 150 °C, Fata up to about 190 °C, Maga S up to about 180 °C
  • Power: 350 W (Zita, Fata), 900 W (Vispa), 1500 W (Maga S)
  • Control: fixed levels, or an electronic heat regulator on the Zita Plus, Fata Plus and Maga S; cold air on the Fata Plus and Maga S
  • Housing: metal (Zita), aluminium (Fata), heat-resistant plastic that can be built into a bench (Vispa)

Frequently asked questions

Which GFC frame heater should I choose?

For the busiest workshop the Maga S (1500 W, electronic regulator, cold air) is the most powerful. Vispa and Vispa Up (900 W) are robust and can be built into a workbench. Zita and Fata (350 W) are compact, and their Plus versions add an electronic heat regulator. The Up models stand higher, as a column. Tell us how many frames you adjust a day and we will advise.

What does the hot air concentrator do?

It guides the hot air to the part of the frame you want to soften, such as a temple tip or the bridge, so the rest of the frame stays as it is. Every GFC frame heater comes with one.

Which frames can I heat?

Frame heaters are made for acetate and other plastic frames. Follow the frame maker’s advice on the maximum temperature and start with the lower setting.
